Course 3 – NEA Support & Development

Overview

This 12-week programme provides structured guidance for completing the OCR Non-Exam Assessment (NEA) project. Students will work through all phases — from analysis and design to development, testing, and evaluation — with expert support. By the end of the course, learners will have a fully documented NEA project that meets OCR standards and demonstrates professional-level planning and execution.

12-Week Course

This 12-week A Level course deepens understanding of algorithms, programming and exam technique, with discussion and problem-solving in a small group.

Effective rate: £55

  • Max group of 5 students
  • Full A Level specification coverage
  • Focus on problem-solving and exam skills
  • Topic papers, revision resources and reviews
  • Ongoing feedback and progress tracking

Detailed Week-by-Week Outline

Learning Objective: Understand OCR NEA criteria and define the problem context.

Activities: Review OCR NEA specification, brainstorm project ideas, and outline objectives.

Learning Objective: Identify stakeholders, research existing systems, and gather requirements.

Activities: Conduct stakeholder interviews, create requirement tables, and analyse similar systems.

Learning Objective: Plan algorithms, flowcharts, and data models (ERDs, UML).

Activities: Draw flowcharts, create pseudocode, and design entity-relationship diagrams.

Learning Objective: Select data structures, program architecture, and interface layout.

Activities: Choose appropriate data structures, sketch UI wireframes, and define architecture layers.

Learning Objective: Begin implementation of core modules.

Activities: Set up development environment, code initial modules, and apply version control.

Learning Objective: Add functionality and integrate program components.

Activities: Implement additional features, integrate modules, and ensure compatibility.

Learning Objective: Refine code, optimise performance, and document changes.

Activities: Optimise algorithms, improve UI, and maintain a change log.

Learning Objective: Create test tables and validate inputs/outputs.

Activities: Develop test cases, validate user inputs, and record results.

Learning Objective: Perform stress testing and analyse results.

Activities: Conduct boundary testing, stress test system performance, and document findings.

Learning Objective: Assess system success, identify limitations, and propose improvements.

Activities: Write evaluation report, highlight strengths and weaknesses, and suggest future enhancements.

Learning Objective: Prepare a report with screenshots, testing evidence, and annotations.

Activities: Compile screenshots, annotate code, and structure final documentation.

Learning Objective: Submit the final NEA and present project outcomes.

Activities: Deliver a presentation, review examiner-style feedback, and finalise submission.

Outcome

Students complete a fully documented NEA project meeting OCR standards and understand how to justify each development phase. By the end of the programme, learners will have a professional-grade project ready for submission and presentation.

Key Benefits:

  • Step-by-step guidance through all NEA phases
  • Expert feedback on design, development, and documentation
  • Practical strategies for meeting OCR assessment criteria
  • Confidence in delivering a complete, high-quality project
